Meghan McCain Calls for Gov. Cuomo’s Resignation: He’s “Completely and Utterly Ghoulish”

There’s no love lost between Meghan McCain and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. On Wednesday morning, The View co-host skewered New York’s governor for allegedly covering up data about the number of nursing home residents who died from COVID-19. While Cuomo has denied the allegation, McCain insisted that he should resign after months of “completely and utterly ghoulish” behavior amid the pandemic. “He is disgusting,” said McCain. “There should be a criminal investigation.”

This morning, the women of The View discussed Cuomo’s Monday press conference, during which he insisted that “all the deaths in nursing homes and hospitals were fully, publicly, and accurately reported,” despite an Democrat-led investigation suggesting otherwise. Sunny Hostin, recalling Cuomo’s recent appearance on The View and his “evasive” answer to her question about the nursing home scandal, insisted that she’s “disappointed” in the governor’s communication with the public. “To be clear, I think that the Trump administration and Pence’s coronavirus task force really stands at the top of responsibility for the almost 500,000 deaths of our loved ones,” she said, “But I think this governor was less than transparent.”

When it came time for her to speak, McCain agreed with Hostin and explained that the Cuomo scandal is personal for her, as her friend, Janice Dean, lost her in-laws to COVID-19 in New York nursing homes last year. “I have a lot of anger towards this story,” she said. “I think the media has done a really piss-poor job of covering this, in all ways. He has been given Emmys; he has gone on TV and joked about his sex life … The adulation and lack of culpability and questioning of him across the board, and his way to evade it, has been nothing short of journalistic malpractice and malfeasance.”

“I’m pro-life across the board,” continued McCain, adding that she finds “the idea that because you are old and you are in a nursing home — that your life is somehow of lesser value than mine” incredibly troubling. “There is no empathy coming from Gov. Cuomo at all … He has not apologized to the families who have lost their family members in this way.”

McCain then called for Cuomo to “step down,” as no one deserves to die “alone in a nursing home,” pandemic or not. “I think about the way my father died, surrounding by family and love, outside in Sedona, surrounded by hawks and animals, with true dignity,” she concluded. “And then the way it could’ve gone, had he not been famous or, god forbid, died from COVID under Andrew Cuomo’s leadership.”
